Dignity for Daughters has been busy since you received our last newsletter at the end of 2023!
Presentations
Five presentations have been held in the first quarter of 2024. A recent session was held at Makwema Secondary School, a government school in a rural area outside Iringa. Our educators taught 112 girls and 125 boys. In follow up interviews with girls from previous presentations, 90% use kits on a regular basis and indicate that they now attend school during their periods.
2024 Goals
Currently, 19 presentations are scheduled from January through September. These include six Diocese schools, five parishes and four government schools (with multiple presentation days due to size.) We expect to train 1800 girls and 1800 boys. October and November are reserved for school exams with December as the semester school break.
Plans call for the creation of 200 period kits by our sewing cooperative January through November, for a total of 2,200 kits.
Introducing Intern Jenna Schrankler
My name is Jenna Schrankler and I am the new Dignity for Daughters Intern! I am 24 and currently teaching middle school special education in Saint Paul Public Schools. In my evenings, I spend time managing the girls weight room or coaching Girls’ Basketball and Girls’ Lacrosse. I visited Tanzania in the Summer of 2023 where I learned about the health education and kits which DfD provides in Iringa secondary schools and knew I wanted to be part of this work. I have started some of my internship roles already and can’t wait to return to Tanzania this summer!
