Our program coordinator, Natihaika Msuya, spent a week in Dodoma at a conference organized by the Tanzania Menstrual Health and Hygiene Coalition. See her here pointing to the DFD logo! took advantage of this great opportunity to network with other organizations. In addition, she attended talks and seminars concerning the importance of working to educate girls and boys about menstruation and providing resources to give them the best chance for a successful future.
Education of boys is shown to be a primary way to make lasting change regarding the stigma of menstruation and male treatment of girls and women. Through questionnaires collected after our presentations, it is clear that DFD is making a significant impact, not only on their understanding of body changes, but how they can change their future and influence their communities for the better.
Our internship program is growing by leaps and bounds. This summer, two interns will travel to Tanzania. Liz Dacunha (Harvard College, Boston) and Laura McGregor (University of Tampa) will be in Iringa for six weeks. A third intern, Gabi Demeuren (Harvard College, Boston,) is working virtually from the U.S. We are thrilled to have these young, enthusiastic women join our team.
Fundraising remains an ever-present challenge; thus, we are happy to announce that we recently enrolled in Thrivent Choice. We are now included in the Thrivent Choice catalog and can receive donations through Thrivent’s online giving platform. In addition, we participate in GiveMN. As always, you can donate through our website. Please pass the word!
