Summer 2023 Presentations
This summer was busy! Three more schools received the DFD presentation; Ipalamwa, Bomalang’ombe and Pommern. Including the May Mtera presentations, 475 girls and 351 boys were trained in reproductive sexual health education in the last few months. We have now completed initial presentations at all six Diocese schools.
Sewing Cooperative
Since its inception, the DFD sewing center has created over 1000 period kits, with the distribution of 804 to Diocese schools. The impact is noticeable, with girls able to attend school despite having their period. According to our program coordinator, Natihaika Msuya, an inability to attend school equates to lower grades, causing lack of motivation with parents eventually deciding it is not worth sending their daughters to school. As a consequence these girls continue the poverty cycle. What a difference a Period Kit can make!
Our Internet Presence
Our website is up and running. Please check it out at www.dignityfordaughters.org.
The Gmail address for DFD is dfdiringa@gmail.com.
Testimony videos from the girls of Mtera will be available soon!
What’s Next?
In addition to making follow-up visits to the six Diocese schools, our team is now working to set up potential presentations at government schools which are attended by Bega Kwa Bega scholarship students. We will also contact the Huruma Center (the Diocese orphanage) as well as speak with pastors about scheduling presentations for partner village girls and women.
